Room Attendant / Housekeeping Attendant

  • Department: Housekeeping

  • Reporting to: Housekeeping Supervisor or Executive Housekeeper

  • Working Hours: Typically 40 hours per week on a rotational shift basis, including weekends and public holidays.

A room attendant is vital to the island’s bustling hospitality industry. As the backbone of the housekeeping department, you are responsible for ensuring guest rooms meet the high standards of cleanliness and comfort that Malta’s 4-star and 5-star hotels are known for.


✅ Key Responsibilities Room Attendant

1. Room Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Bed Making: Strip and change bed linens, and make beds according to hotel standards.

  • Sanitization: Thoroughly clean and disinfect bathrooms, including toilets, showers, sinks, and mirrors.

  • Dusting & Polishing: Dust all furniture, fixtures, and surfaces; polish mirrors and windows.

  • Floor Care: Vacuum carpets and mop hard floors in both guest rooms and corridors.

  • Waste Management: Empty trash bins, replace liners, and remove used towels or “terry.”

2. Guest Relations & Supplies

  • Replenishment: Restock guest amenities (toiletries, coffee/tea, stationery) and the minibar.

  • Special Requests: Deliver items on loan (irons, extra pillows) and handle guest queries politely.

  • Privacy: Respect “Do Not Disturb” signs and ensure the security of guest belongings.

3. Reporting & Quality Control

  • Maintenance: Report any damaged furniture, flickering lights, or plumbing issues immediately.

  • Inventory: Keep your housekeeping cart organized and restocked for each shift.

  • Compliance: Follow health and safety (COSHH) regulations regarding cleaning chemicals.


🎓 Requirements & Qualifications Room Attendant

  • Skills Pass: In 2026, most hotel workers in Malta are required to hold or obtain the Skills Pass certificate (as mandated by the Malta Tourism Authority).

  • Language: Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of Maltese, Italian, or German is a strong asset.

  • Physical Fitness: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy linens, and move cleaning equipment.

  • Experience: Previous experience in a 4* or 5* hotel is preferred, though many hotels offer full training for entry-level candidates.
