Job Description

Head Waiter

The Head Waiter plays a key role in overseeing the dining experience and ensuring smooth operations in the restaurant. This position requires strong leadership skills, exceptional customer service, and the ability to manage and motivate a team of waitstaff. The Head Waiter coordinates with the kitchen and bar to ensure efficient service, handles guest inquiries and issues, and maintains a high standard of service quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate the activities of the waitstaff, including scheduling shifts, assigning tasks, and providing training and guidance.
  • Guest Service: Welcome guests warmly, seat them appropriately, and ensure their needs are met throughout their dining experience. Handle guest inquiries and complaints effectively.
  • Order Management: Oversee the flow of food and beverage orders from the kitchen to the dining area, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Coordinate with kitchen staff and bartenders to maintain smooth service.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that food and beverages are served according to established standards of presentation and quality. Conduct regular checks to maintain service excellence.
  • Upselling and Recommendations: Promote additional menu items, specials, and beverages to enhance the guest experience and increase revenue.
  • Table Maintenance: Monitor and maintain cleanliness and organization of tables, chairs, and dining areas. Assist with setting up and clearing tables as needed.
  • Training and Development: Provide ongoing training to waitstaff on service techniques, menu knowledge, and customer service standards. Foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Inventory and Stock Management: Monitor inventory levels of dining supplies and assist in ordering and restocking as necessary. Ensure proper handling and storage of supplies.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports on dining room performance, guest feedback, and staff evaluations. Provide feedback to management on areas for improvement and opportunities.


  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in hospitality management is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a waiter or senior waiter, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
    • Knowledge of restaurant operations and service standards.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
    • Manual dexterity for handling trays, plates, and utensils.
