Job Description
Bartender
The Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving a wide variety of beverages, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the bar area. This role requires a thorough knowledge of drink recipes, the ability to mix ingredients to create classic and innovative drinks, and a friendly, engaging demeanor to ensure a positive guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Drink Preparation: Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to standardized recipes. Mix ingredients to create cocktails and other specialty drinks.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by greeting guests warmly, taking drink orders, and addressing any inquiries or concerns. Engage with guests to enhance their experience.
- Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels of beverages, garnishes, and supplies. Notify the Bar Manager of any shortages and assist in ordering and restocking items.
- Cash Handling: Handle cash, credit, and debit transactions accurately. Process payments, issue receipts, and provide change as necessary. Maintain a balanced cash drawer.
- Cleanliness and Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized bar area, including countertops, sinks, glassware, and equipment. Follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Check identification to verify the legal drinking age.
- Knowledge of Menu: Maintain a thorough knowledge of the bar menu, including drink specials and promotions. Be prepared to make recommendations and answer questions about menu items.
- Upselling: Promote and upsell additional items, such as appetizers and desserts, to enhance guest experience and increase sales.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other bar staff, servers, and kitchen staff to ensure seamless service. Support colleagues during busy periods and maintain a positive team environment.
- Reporting: Report any equipment issues, inventory shortages, or customer complaints to the Bar Manager promptly.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Previous experience as a bartender or in a similar role is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of drink recipes and mixology techniques.
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
- Basic math skills for handling transactions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
- Attention to detail and a passion for creating quality beverages.
- Certifications: Must have or be willing to obtain any required alcohol service certifications (e.g., TIPS, ServSafe Alcohol).
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Manual dexterity for operating bar equipment and utensils.
