A receiving associate typically needs to have the following qualifications:

Education: A high school diploma or GED certificate is usually the minimum requirement for an entry-level position in this field. However, some employers may prefer an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as business, finance or accounting. An associate degree in business administration or accounting can provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in this role.

Training & Experience: Most employers will provide on-the-job training for new receiving associates. This training may include how to use the company’s inventory management software, how to use the forklift, and how to properly handle and store inventory. Training may also include how to use the facility’s equipment, such as pallet jacks and forklifts.

• Making sure that the incoming items are properly stored and labeled according to standard operating procedures
• Making an inventory of incoming shipments of goods or materials and noting any discrepancies between what was ordered and what was received
• Delivering packages to customer’s homes or businesses within a specified geographic area
• Inspecting incoming packages to ensure that they are not damaged in any way
• Performing clerical tasks such as filing purchase orders and invoices
• Receiving payment for products via cash, check, credit card, or other methods such as PayPal or Square
• Ensuring that all customers are treated with courtesy and respect—responding to questions about products, ordering new products, or making recommendations based on customer preferences
• Providing customers with product information and answering questions about products or services
• Communicating with vendors regarding order status or shipping delays or problems due to weather or other circumstances beyond the company’s control
