Job Description

SAUSAGE PROCESSING WORKER

You will operate machinery and perform manual tasks involved in producing sausages, salami, and other processed meat products. The role focuses heavily on the consistent mixing of ingredients, stuffing casings, and ensuring that every batch meets the hygiene and flavor standards of “Made in Albania” products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mixing & Preparation: Measure and dump meat, spices, and curing agents into industrial mixing and grinding machines.

  • Filling & Stuffing: Operate pneumatic or hydraulic stuffing machines to fill casings with meat mixtures, ensuring correct tension and size.

  • Linking & Tying: Twist or tie sausages into uniform links manually or using automated linking equipment.

  • Smoking & Curing: Move racks of sausages into smokehouses or curing rooms, monitoring temperature and humidity levels.

  • Packaging: Operate vacuum-sealing and labeling machines for final distribution to retailers like Spar or local markets.

  • Hygiene Management: Conduct “deep-clean” cycles on grinders and stuffers between batches to prevent cross-contamination.

## Salary & Benefits (2026)

Since the food processing sector shows more stability than fresh meat exports in 2026, wages have remained steady or increased for skilled labor.

Benefit Category Estimated Range / Detail
Monthly Salary (Net) 55,000 – 75,000 ALL (Approx. €540 – €740)
Overtime Pay Frequent during holiday seasons (December/Easter).
Food & Housing Many industrial sites near Tirana/Durrës provide free daily meals and subsidized accommodation.
Uniforms Specialized thermal and hygienic gear (aprons, gloves, hairnets) are provided free of charge.

Requirements & Skills

  • Health Certification: A valid Food Handler’s Booklet (Libreza Shëndetësore) is an absolute legal requirement.

  • HACCP Knowledge: Familiarity with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) is highly valued for international export lines.

  • Physical Strength: Ability to lift crates of meat (up to 25kg) and push heavy smoking racks (up to 100kg on wheels).

  • Manual Dexterity: High hand-eye coordination for rapid tying and linking tasks.

  • Language: While English is a plus for international firms, the ability to follow safety signage in Albanian is essential.

Working Conditions

  • The “Cold Chain”: You will work in a chilled environment (typically 4°C to 10°C) to keep meat fresh.

  • Schedule: Usually a 5-day work week, with shifts ranging from 8 to 10 hours. Early morning starts (4:00 AM or 6:00 AM) are common in this industry.

  • Teamwork: Most processing lines in Albania are organized into small teams (4–6 people) responsible for a specific product line.

2026 Market Trend: There is a specific “Double-Digit Growth” in processed meat preparations in Albania right now. Workers who can operate automated slicing and multi-vac packaging lines are seeing the highest demand and fastest promotions to “Line Supervisor” roles.
