Job Description

MEAT PROCESSING FACTORY WORKER

A Meat Processing Factory Worker (often categorized as a Meat Packer or Processing Operator) handles the transformation of animal carcasses into consumer-ready products. Hygiene standards highly regulate the role and require working in temperature-controlled (cold) environments to maintain food safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Processing & Cutting: Assist in deboning, trimming, and slicing meat (beef, pork, or poultry) according to specific commercial cuts.

  • Packaging: Operate vacuum-sealing machinery, wrap products, and apply accurate labels (weight, expiration date, and origin).

  • Quality Inspection: Monitor stock for sinews, fatty tissue, or any foreign objects to ensure high-quality standards.

  • Hygiene & Sanitation: Regularly clean and disinfect tools, surfaces, and machinery according to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) standards.

  • Logistics: Weigh carcasses and finished packages, and assist in loading shipments onto refrigerated trucks.

Salary & Market Outlook (2026)

Following the national wage updates in January 2026, the meat processing sector has seen a baseline increase in pay.

Metric Details (ALL) Details (Approx. Euro)
Monthly Minimum Wage 50,000 ALL €495
Average Factory Worker 55,000 – 70,000 ALL €545 – €695
Skilled Butcher/Cutter 75,000 – 95,000 ALL €745 – €940
  • Growth: The industry is currently shifting toward higher domestic production to reduce reliance on imports, creating long-term stability for factory roles.

  • Benefits: Many larger Albanian processing plants now offer perks such as provided meals, transportation to the factory, and specialized work clothing (thermal gear).

Requirements & Skills

  • Physical Stamina: The ability to stand for 8-hour shifts and work in cold storage environments (typically between 0°C and 4°C).

  • Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with sharp tool handling and chemical cleaning agents.

  • Certifications: A valid Food Handler’s Permit (Shëndetësorja) is mandatory in Albania for anyone touching food products.

  • Attention to Detail: Precision in weighing and labeling is critical to avoid regulatory fines for the factory.

Working Conditions

  • Environment: Factories are kept at low temperatures to prevent spoilage. Workers are provided with insulated PPE (jackets, gloves, and boots).

  • Regulations: Albania aligns its food safety with EU directives. You will be expected to follow strict “Clean Room” protocols, including hairnets and hand-sanitization cycles.

  • Schedule: Most factories operate on a two-shift system (early morning and afternoon), usually Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday shifts during peak demand (holidays).

Pro-Tip: In the 2026 market, workers with knowledge of HACCP standards or experience with automated packaging lines are often fast-tracked for “Line Lead” or “Supervisor” positions, which carry higher salary brackets.
