General Summary

The Golf Course Machinery Operator plays a crucial role in maintaining the course’s pristine condition. This position involves operating and managing a range of specialized machinery and equipment to ensure the golf course meets the highest standards of excellence. We are seeking a candidate with a deep understanding of golf course maintenance, a commitment to quality, and exceptional technical skills.

Job Overview: Purpose and Scope

The primary purpose of this role is to effectively operate and maintain a variety of machinery to uphold the quality of the golf course. This position requires a comprehensive knowledge of golf course maintenance procedures and equipment operations. The scope includes performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, and collaborating with the groundskeeping team to ensure the course remains in optimal condition for members and guests.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Machine Operation: Operate a range of machinery, including mowers, aerators, sprayers, and other equipment used in the upkeep of the golf course.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machinery, including cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting for wear and tear. Identify and address minor mechanical issues, and escalate major repairs to the Head Mechanic.

  • Course Upkeep: Conduct daily course inspections to identify and address maintenance needs. Assist in the preparation and upkeep of tees, greens, fairways, and roughs to ensure the course meets the club’s high standards.

  • Chemical Application: Apply fertilisers, pesticides, and herbicides in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and grounds crew to coordinate maintenance tasks and schedules. Communicate effectively with team members to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.

  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols while operating machinery and handling chemicals. Maintain accurate records of machinery usage, maintenance, and any incidents encountered.

  • Training: Participate in ongoing training to stay current with industry best practices and advancements in technology. Assist in training new team members on proper equipment use.

Role Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in machinery operation is preferred.

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience operating golf course machinery or similar heavy equipment; experience in a luxury or high-end golf environment is highly advantageous.

  • Skills: Proficiency in operating and maintaining a variety of golf course machinery; strong mechanical aptitude; basic knowledge of turf management practices.
