Position Summary
The Commis 1 assists in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of high-quality dishes while supporting senior kitchen staff. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment. As a vital member of the culinary team, the Commis 1 ensures smooth kitchen operations and maintains high food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities of a Commis 1
- Food Preparation
- Prepare ingredients such as chopping vegetables, portioning proteins, and other prep tasks under the guidance of senior chefs.
- Ensure all ingredients are fresh and of high quality.
- Cooking and Presentation
- Assist in cooking and plating dishes according to recipes and presentation guidelines.
- Maintain consistency in flavor, portion size, and presentation style.
- Hygiene and Food Safety
- Uphold strict hygiene practices in food handling and preparation areas.
- Follow all food safety regulations, including proper storage and labeling of ingredients.
- Station Maintenance
- Organize and stock workstations with necessary supplies and tools for efficient service.
- Assist in monitoring inventory and communicating shortages to supervisors.
- Team Collaboration
- Support senior kitchen staff during busy periods to ensure smooth service.
- Communicate effectively with the team to complete tasks efficiently.
Requirements for the Commis 1 Role
- Experience:
- Prior experience in a professional kitchen setting is preferred.
- Skills:
- Basic knowledge of cooking techniques, knife handling, and food preparation processes.
- Familiarity with kitchen equipment and safety protocols.
- Physical Stamina:
- Ability to stand for long periods and work under pressure in a busy kitchen.
