Commis 1

Position Summary
The Commis 1 assists in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of high-quality dishes while supporting senior kitchen staff. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment. As a vital member of the culinary team, the Commis 1 ensures smooth kitchen operations and maintains high food safety standards.


Key Responsibilities of a Commis 1

  1. Food Preparation
    • Prepare ingredients such as chopping vegetables, portioning proteins, and other prep tasks under the guidance of senior chefs.
    • Ensure all ingredients are fresh and of high quality.
  2. Cooking and Presentation
    • Assist in cooking and plating dishes according to recipes and presentation guidelines.
    • Maintain consistency in flavor, portion size, and presentation style.
  3. Hygiene and Food Safety
    • Uphold strict hygiene practices in food handling and preparation areas.
    • Follow all food safety regulations, including proper storage and labeling of ingredients.
  4. Station Maintenance
    • Organize and stock workstations with necessary supplies and tools for efficient service.
    • Assist in monitoring inventory and communicating shortages to supervisors.
  5. Team Collaboration
    • Support senior kitchen staff during busy periods to ensure smooth service.
    • Communicate effectively with the team to complete tasks efficiently.

Requirements for the Commis 1 Role

  • Experience:
    • Prior experience in a professional kitchen setting is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Basic knowledge of cooking techniques, knife handling, and food preparation processes.
    • Familiarity with kitchen equipment and safety protocols.
  • Physical Stamina:
    • Ability to stand for long periods and work under pressure in a busy kitchen.
  • Flexibility:
    • Willingness to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
