A Hostess is responsible for welcoming and greeting guests, escorting them to their tables, and ensuring the smooth operation of the restaurant’s front-of-house.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Greeting and Seating:
    • Warmly welcome guests as they arrive at the restaurant.
    • Escort guests to their assigned tables and present menus.
    • Ensure an even distribution of guests among available tables.
  2. Reservations and Waitlists:
    • Manage reservations, ensuring they are correctly recorded and honored.
    • Maintain a waitlist and notify guests when their tables are ready.
  3. Menu Knowledge:
    • Provide guests with menus and offer explanations of menu items, daily specials, and promotions.
    • Make recommendations based on guest preferences and dietary restrictions.
  4. Coordinating with Servers:
    • Communicate with the waitstaff to ensure a smooth flow of service.
    • Notify servers when their tables are ready and guests are seated.
  5. Guest Services:
    • Attend to guests waiting for tables, ensuring their comfort and providing any necessary information.
    • Handle special requests, such as accommodations for guests with disabilities.
  6. Maintaining the Waiting Area:
    • Ensure the waiting area is clean, organized, and presentable.
    • Monitor and restock supplies as needed.
  7. Resolving Guest Concerns:
    • Address guest concerns and complaints in a professional and polite manner.
    • Escalate any issues to the restaurant manager when necessary.
  8. Maintaining Reservation Records:
    • Keep accurate records of reservations, ensuring no overbooking or double-booking occurs.
    • Confirm reservations and follow up with guests as necessary.
  9. Teamwork:
    • Collaborate with the restaurant’s staff to ensure a smooth and efficient operation.
    • Communicate effectively with the kitchen and waitstaff to coordinate service.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is often preferred but not always required.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication and multitasking abilities.
  • Knowledge of the restaurant’s layout and table arrangements.
  • A professional and well-groomed appearance.
  • Familiarity with reservation and point-of-sale systems is a plus.
