Job Description

Stewarding Supervisor

As a Stewarding Supervisor, you will oversee the stewarding team to ensure the kitchen and food service areas are clean, organized, and well-maintained. Your role includes managing staff, coordinating cleaning schedules, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervision and Leadership:
    • Lead, train, and supervise the stewarding team to ensure high standards of cleanliness and organization.
    • Schedule and assign duties to stewards, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts.
    • Conduct regular team meetings and training sessions to maintain high performance and adherence to standards.
  2. Operational Management:
    • Oversee the cleaning and sanitation of kitchen equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas.
    • Ensure proper storage and organization of kitchen tools, equipment, and chemicals.
    • Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, ordering as necessary.
  3. Health and Safety Compliance:
    • Ensure all kitchen and stewarding operations comply with health and safety regulations.
    • Conduct regular inspections of kitchen areas, equipment, and storage spaces to ensure cleanliness and safety.
    • Address any safety concerns or violations promptly, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  4. Coordination and Communication:
    • Work closely with the kitchen and food and beverage teams to support smooth operations.
    • Coordinate with other departments to ensure timely setup and breakdown of banquet and event spaces.
    • Communicate effectively with staff and management to relay information and address issues.
  5. Quality Control:
    • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization throughout the kitchen and food service areas.
    • Implement and uphold sanitation and hygiene protocols to prevent contamination and ensure food safety.
    • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
  6. Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain accurate records of inventory, cleaning schedules, and staff performance.
    • Assist with budgeting and financial planning for the stewarding department.
    • Prepare reports on department performance, staff issues, and operational needs.


  • High school diploma or equivalent; degree in hospitality management or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory role within a stewarding or kitchen environment.
  • Strong knowledge of sanitation and hygiene standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using kitchen equipment and cleaning chemicals safely.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the kitchen for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying heavy items (up to 50 pounds).
  • Comfortable working in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat, humidity, and various cleaning agents.

Work Environment:

  • Kitchen and food service areas within the hotel/resort.
  • Frequent interaction with kitchen staff, food and beverage team, and management.
  • Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
